The Cobra F Max Airspeed Ladies Combo set is a new release for Cobra this year. This set was very well designed, and it is somewhat fair as far as pricing is concerned. We like the look and the technology behind the Airspeed combo. We will give you a full review on this set as well as an alternative for a used set should you not want to purchase an expensive new option. Each year Cobra seems to impress us more and more with their new releases.
The Airspeed line of golf clubs is all about weight. The lighter the golf club, the quicker they can speed through the air. The faster you swing it, the further the ball goes. The Airspeed has less weight, not just in the head of the club but the shaft and the grip as well. Cobra likes to save weight anywhere they can. If you have a moderate to slow swing speed, this is an excellent set for you to check out. Instead of trying to swing the club incredibly fast and lose your tempo and control, you can keep all of that and generate some extra speed.
The center of gravity is placed towards the heel of this club, and it helps keep shots a little more in control. As you move through the set, the clubs offer a bit more forgiveness. This is a progressive set design. When you hit your sand wedge, you will be looking at a more traditional style club, but as you move up towards the seven iron, the sole of the club will get a little wider, and you will get some extra help getting the launch you need. Since this is a combo set, the progressive iron design fades very nicely into the full hybrid design.
The irons are a cavity back design, and they are more of a classic looking shape than some of the other Cobra irons like the Speedback. It’s not to say that we do not like the Speedback irons, but they do have a bit of a futuristic look to them compared to this traditional rounded Airspeed club.
The Combo set is most often sold as a five hybrid, six hybrid, and seven iron to sand wedge. This is our favorite set makeup for a women’s set of irons. Having that seven iron in a traditional iron design leaves so much more workability and shot-making options for the female player.
The Airspeed clubs all come with a slightly offset design. This little bit of offset will help the player that tends to hit the left to right slice. Offset design is not quite the same as draw bias, but it certainly helps to straighten things out.
The Cobra Airspeed combo set comes with a 45-gram Cobra Airspeed shaft. Cobra usually uses Aldila to design all of their shafts, but this one is done in house. The weighting on it had to be just perfect, and we are guessing that is why they chose to do this one themselves. Another essential thing to note about the Airspeed set is that the lofts are a bit more traditional. Making the lofts more traditional helps to get some extra ball flight that players need, even if it costs a yard or two.
Please note that you do NOT have to use the stock shaft by default. You can get professionally fitted by someone to find the best combination of driver head and shaft to optimize driver distance and accuracy. We strongly recommend ANY GOLFER that wants to get better to get fitted once they are happy with their swing. If you are not happy with your swing, consider getting some lessons first. You’ll improve much faster.
The Better Value Combo Set for Women
If you are a slower swinging player looking for an upgrade this year, the Airspeed is an excellent option. Although Cobra tends to price their clubs more reasonably than many other brands, this set still may be priced higher than you would like to spend. The good news is, as always, we have found you an alternative.
The Cobra F-Max Superlite irons and hybrids are just a bit older than the Airspeed, and it offers plenty of benefits. The Superlite may be sold as an iron set with the option to choose irons, but you can still put it together as a combo set should you choose. The Superlite is just as good as the Airspeed when it comes to forgiveness and control. Where the Superlite lacks just a little is in the distance. The Airspeed does tend to be a bit longer than the Superlite was. Either way, if you have an iron set more than five years old and you feel as though your swing speed is moderate to slow, you will do fine with either of these sets of golf clubs.
Is the Cobra F-Max Airspeed Combo Set Worth The Money?
Yes. The Airspeed Combo set really is priced very fairly as far as new golf clubs are concerned. It is packed with technology and will help you to lower your scores by being consistent, forgiving, and easy to swing. The fact that these clubs are so lightweight allows you to swing them well on the first tee and the eighteenth tee.
