Looking for the softest golf ball with the highest spin rate so that you can get the most backspin possible? I can understand why.
Spinning a shot back on the green is one of the coolest parts of golf in my opinion. And checking up a chip shot or pitch shot is super important when you are trying to reach a single digit handicap or better. Sometimes you are simply going to put yourself in a bad situation. If it weren’t for a golf ball that checks up, you would have no chance of leaving your chip shot within a reasonable distance from the whole. Making bogey instead of pars in those situations can really add up, so you need to be able to get the ball to hit the green and stop when you have to.
Plus, the feel of a soft golf ball is just hard to leave when you first experience it. It’s like you are hardly hitting the golf ball at all. The golf ball is just getting in the way of your swing.
There are many soft golf balls with varying spin rates that would be fine for any golfer. However, if you are looking to maximize the benefit of your golf ball, I think we can find the best golf ball for you and your wallet. Depending on your budget, here are the highest spin golf balls for you to spin the ball back on the greens. The article is split up into 3 sections:
- Cheap: the first section is for those that hate spending money on golf, but still want great equipment. I often timed fit perfectly into the category, as spending money physically hurts me for some reason. However, I still want a soft golf ball that checks up and spins around the greens. The best cheap golf ball when we are talking about backspin and soft feel is the Srixon Soft Feel (fitting name there!).
- Best Value: the second section if for those that always want the best bang for their buck. Equipment in this category typically falls right in between the cheap stuff and the premium stuff, leaning slightly to the premium stuff. However, this category often homes older models or just underpriced models that perform nearly just as good as the best overall piece of equipment. The Callaway Chrome Soft is the obvious winner in this category for this article.
- Best Overall: the best of the best; the cream of the crop. You know what I’m talking about. If money is no worry for you, these are the ones for you. For this article, there is no better ball than the “best overall” category winner, the Titleist Pro V1.
Here’s a brief review and description of the category winners for the softest golf balls for spinning the golf ball back on the green. By the way, each link or picture that you click on will take you to the respective eBay listing for that golf ball!
The “Cheap” Spinning, Softest Golf Ball: Srixon Soft Feel
Looking for the cheapest ball that will check up on the green? Then the Srixon Soft Feel is the one for you. Luckily for me, I first found this ball in the woods and continued to play with it until I eventually lost it many holes later. I was shocked how the ball reacted on the greens though, especially considering that I had never heard of the ball at the time.
Since then, I have bought many dozen balls online and have been pleased any time I use them. I typically buy used golf balls, but if you want a brand new dozen, these will be hard to pass up on. I’ve recommended the Srixon Soft Feel balls in many articles and to many friends. As far as I know, everyone has been extremely pleased with the results.
Other premium, multi layer golf balls cost upwards of $30 or more. However, this balls.. I kid you not… sells for $20 a dozen and sometimes even less than that. And that includes shipping! This is the only ball that I would ever buy new to be honest. I am a little biased, though, because I’m on a college budget still.

The Best Value, Soft Golf Ball for Backspin: Callaway Chrome Soft
Looking for the best bang for your buck? The Callaway Chrome Soft is the one for you. In my opinion, it asks just like the Titleist Pro V1x golf ball. Tons of distance, plenty of spin, great feel. Very high spin around the greens, so you can surely check the ball up and spin the ball so that it stops near the pin. What else do you need in a golf ball?
Many people think that the Pro V1 golf ball is undeniably the highest spinning, softest golf ball on the planet. I disagree. I think there are multiple just like it, all for a lower price tag too! This Callaway Chrome Soft is the lowest price of the true Pro V1 alternatives, though, so it rightfully deserves the “best budget” spot.
I’ve been gifted a couple dozen of these over the years, and I’m always super pleased with the results. Depending on the greens, your chip and pitch shots could spin back much more than you would expect. If you are looking for the best Pro V1 alternative on a budget, you can’t go wrong with the Callaway Chrome Soft.
The Highest Backspin, Softest Golf Ball: Titleist Pro V1
Although I think there are similar performing golf balls on the market, it’s hard to go against the entire golf industry’s beliefs. The Titleist Pro V1 golf ball is famously the most talked about, spin inducing golf ball that you can buy. Is it a tad expensive and overpriced? Yep, sure is! But will it provide you the most confidence when you are over the ball? Probably so. And will it provide the most spin and the softest feel? Probably so again.
The Titleist Pro V1 golf ball is the most popular golf ball on tour behind the Pro V1x. There is a minuscule difference in distance and spin between the two (the Pro V1x golf ball is slightly longer, the Pro V1 golf ball spins a tad more). If you are looking for the ball that spins the most on the greens, there is no better ball that you can buy than this one.
